I have made it a priority to protect the economy of San Juan County by working to save the 1500 jobs associated with San Juan Generating Station and San Juan Mine. PNM has taken the option to abandon SJGS, but the City of Farmington still has rights to market this powerful economic generator. When Farmington opted to market the plant, they found a partner in Enchant Energy, a company with the technology to capture the CO2 from the power plant. SJGS already captures all the other waste pollutants, it is in fact the cleanest coal fired power plant in the country, releasing only CO2. Enchant Energy's technology will capture this last remaining pollutant.

Still, some groups have such a hatred for coal that even with the capture and mitigation of every pollutant, they want SJGS closed and the elimination of 1500 of some of the best paying jobs in the county.

I have worked with all my efforts to defend these jobs and the families that would be crushed by the closing.
